Superplasticizer Concrete Admixture N510
Mechanism of Action
The mechanism of this superplasticizer works as follows: when polycarboxylate ether is added to the concrete mix or cement mortar, the polycarboxylate ether molecules align in layers around the cement particles and fully coat them. This process separates cement particles from each other in the concrete or mortar mix.
The side chains of the polycarboxylate ether repel particles, while the hydrophobic force in its main chain causes large molecules to be attracted by the cement particles.
This process structures the water molecules away from the cement particles, making the concrete or mortar flowable. Over time, the charges created in the concrete mix are influenced by reverse induction, and the increase in slump, concrete workability, and cement hydration begins.
To assess product quality, the first step is to check its color. If it is dark brown, it means that materials other than polycarboxylate ether have been used in its composition, and the product will no longer have the properties of a true polycarboxylate superplasticizer.
Concentration is also a quality indicator—if the product has a viscosity similar to oil, is completely uniform, and free of any settled particles, it is high‑quality.
Consumption of N510 Superplasticizer
The standard consumption rate of N510 is 0.4% to 1.3% of the cement weight in the mix. This should be determined through accurate site trials, considering materials used and climatic conditions.
Excessive usage is not allowed—overdosing may delay concrete setting, especially with sulfate‑resistant cement. It is advised to consult experienced experts from ZORLU Chemical for adjustments.

Method of Use for N510 Superplasticizer
The amount of superplasticizer should be calculated based on the cement content of the concrete and diluted with twice its volume of the mixing water. This additive should be gradually added to the concrete during mixing.
It can also be added to ready‑mixed concrete, followed by complete mixing before pouring. It is recommended to mix for at least one minute per cubic meter of concrete. Additionally, the product may be introduced into the batching plant or truck mixer during concrete production.
Note: The N510 normal superplasticizer should never be poured directly onto dry cement, in order to preserve the additive’s optimal performance and effectiveness.
