Mechanism of Action

The performance of LR200 is based on polycarboxylate ether (PCE) technology.

When PCE is added to a concrete or cement mortar mix, its molecules arrange themselves in a layered manner around cement particles, coating them completely. This process causes the particles to repel and separate from each other within the mixture.

The side chains of the PCE molecules further enhance this repulsion effect, dispersing the cement particles. This spacing rearranges the water molecules so they are positioned away from cement surfaces, resulting in a more fluid and workable concrete mix.

Over time, the charges created during mixing are neutralized through reverse induction, leading to increased slump and flow and initiating the hydration process.

Quality Control Tips:

  • Color Check: A dark brown color may indicate the presence of materials other than pure PCE, reducing its superplasticizing effect.
  • Viscosity Check: A high-quality product should have an oil-like consistency, uniform texture, and be free from sediment.

Dosage

  • Standard usage: 0.7% – 1.2% of the cement weight in the mix.
  • The exact dosage should be determined based on site trials, weather conditions, and material type.
  • Overdosing is not allowed — it may cause delayed setting, especially with sulfate-resistant cements.

The correct method of using this product is as follows:

The dosage of the plasticizer should be calculated based on the concrete grade and diluted with twice its volume of concrete mixing water. The diluted admixture should then be added gradually to the mixing concrete, ensuring even distribution throughout the mix. It can also be added to a ready-mixed batch of concrete, after which the concrete should be mixed thoroughly before placement.

It is recommended to mix for at least one minute per cubic meter of concrete. Additionally, the plasticizer can be added during the production process, either directly into the batching plant or into the truck mixer.

Important: Never pour the plasticizer directly onto dry cement. This rule is critical to ensure optimal performance and effectiveness of the admixture.
