Mechanism of Action

Concrete Plasticizer LR120 operates on advanced polycarboxylate ether (PCE) technology.

Its molecules have active side chains and branches that, once added to a fresh concrete mix, adsorb onto the surfaces of cement particles, forming a uniform coating layer.

  • This coating produces electrostatic repulsion between cement particles, preventing clumping and promoting a homogeneous structure.
  • The spatial configuration of side chains arranges water molecules evenly around the particles, significantly reducing mix viscosity and increasing flowability.
  • Negative-charge induction, enhanced by the PCE molecular structure, ensures continuous dispersion of cement particles and prevents agglomeration throughout mixing.

Quality check: High-quality LR120 should have a uniform brown color and smooth texture. Any dark shade, suspended solids, or signs of impure raw materials indicate poor quality and loss of superplasticizing performance.

Dosage

  • Recommended dosage range: 0.8% – 1.5% of the cement weight.
  • Adjust based on project requirements, climate, cement type, aggregates, and target workability.
  • Higher dosages should only be applied after consulting Zarloo Chemical’s technical specialists, as overdosing can delay initial set — especially with special cements like sulfate-resistant cement.

Properties & Benefits

  1. Prevents bleeding – improves cohesion and prevents aggregate-water segregation.
  2. Increases slump – higher workability without extra water.
  3. Improves mix uniformity – better control over water-cement ratio and reduced settlement.
  4. Enhances compressive strength – supports uniform hydration and lower W/C ratio.
  5. Reduces cement usage – improved mix efficiency leads to same strength with less cement.
  6. Compatible with supplementary materials – usable alongside fly ash, silica fume, slag, and natural pozzolans without property conflicts.

Applications

Ideal for:

  • Casting in dense formworks with high reinforcement levels.
  • Prestressed and post-tensioned concrete.
  • Pumpable mixes and concretes transported over long distances.
  • Normal or variable temperature concreting.
  • Precast concrete units such as curbstones, blocks, and artificial stones.
  • Structures requiring low permeability and high durability in aggressive environments.

Safety Instructions

Although LR120 is classified as low-hazard, standard protective measures are essential:

  • Wear gloves, safety glasses, and a mask when handling.
  • Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes — rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • In case of allergic reaction or skin irritation, seek medical attention immediately.

Storage Guidelines

  • Shelf life: At least 1 year in original sealed packaging.
  • Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place; avoid frost, excessive heat, and prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Temperature range: +10°C to +30°C for optimal performance preservation.

Packaging Options

  • 20 L plastic jerrycans
  • 220 L steel/plastic drums
  • 1000 L IBC tanks

Standards Compliance

  • ASTM C494
  • ASTM C1017 / C1071M
  • ISIRI 2930

Physical & Chemical Properties — Concrete Plasticizer LR120

  • Physical State: Liquid, medium viscosity
  • Color: Light honey
  • Specific Gravity: ~1.06 g/mL
  • Solubility: Fully soluble in water, leaves no sediment
  • Flammability: Non-flammable
  • Chloride Ion Content: Within permissible limits per INSO 12930, safe for reinforced concrete production

These properties make LR120 not only highly safe to handle, but also chemically compatible with common materials used in concrete production.

Method of Use — Concrete Plasticizer LR120

To fully benefit from the performance and advantages of this Zarloo Chemical product, follow these steps:

  1. Dosage Calculation: Determine the amount of admixture based on the cement content in the mix design.
  2. Dilution: For improved dispersion, dilute the admixture with twice its volume of mixing water.
  3. Gradual Addition: Add the diluted solution gradually into the concrete mix.
  4. Point of Addition: The admixture can be added during mixing, either directly into the truck mixer or into the batching plant mixer.
  5. Do Not Add to Dry Cement: Never pour the admixture directly onto dry cement.
  6. Mixing Time: After adding the plasticizer, continue mixing for at least 1–2 minutes to ensure uniform distribution.
