When a concrete section is left incomplete for any reason and concreting resumes after the initial concrete has fully set, weaknesses in strength and permeability may develop at the joint. These weaknesses occur due to insufficient bonding between the new and old concrete.

AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive is an effective solution to this problem. This product not only bonds old and new concrete together but is also widely used in repair work to enhance the adhesion of repair mortar to old surfaces. Additionally, when mixed with fresh concrete, it increases particle bonding and improves overall concrete properties.

AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive

AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive is a polymer formulated and produced from synthetic homopolymers that reacts easily with water and concrete cement. This reaction increases the tensile and flexural strength as well as the durability of the concrete. The most important feature of this product is its enhanced adhesion, which increases the bonding strength of the concrete mix particles, improves density, and reduces permeability. Using this product can also reduce the water consumption of concrete by up to 5%.

The nano strengthening concrete adhesive is widely used in the construction industry as a concrete additive. It is designed to increase the strength of concrete and improve its mechanical and technical properties. One of its prominent features is its significant reduction of concrete permeability, preventing infiltration of fluids such as water into the concrete.

Mechanism of Action of AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive

Being a synthetic polymer, once mixed and dispersed in the concrete mixture, the adhesive improves concrete quality through the following mechanisms:

1. Increased Adhesion:

The polymer enhances the bonding strength of the particles in the concrete mix. By dispersing throughout the concrete, it bonds the aggregates and cement, creating more integrity and cohesion in the final hardened concrete.

2. Polymer Film Formation:

After the concrete dries, the adhesive forms a polymer film within the voids between the aggregates, filling them and reducing permeability. This prevents water and other fluids from penetrating the concrete.

3. Insolubility in Water:

Once the concrete hardens, the adhesive fully dries and becomes insoluble in water, improving durability and longevity.

How to Identify a High‑Quality Strengthening Concrete Adhesive

  • Polymer Composition: Must be formulated from water-based homopolymers, copolymers, or a combination of both.
  • Bleeding: In sealed packaging, bleeding water should not exceed the height of a finger. Excess indicates “phase separation.”
  • Viscosity and Stabilizers: A high water content in the formulation without proper thickeners and stabilizers can cause excessive bleeding.
  • No Mineral Powders: Manufacturer should not use mineral powders like carbonate or talc merely to increase viscosity.Test by rubbing between fingers—any gritty feel suggests mineral fillers that add no performance value.

Recommended Consumption

Consumption varies based on factors like surface roughness, ambient temperature, cement type, cement quantity, and aggregate type, but typically:

  • For internal waterproofing of concrete: 5–9% of cement weight
  • For adding to repair mortars: 3–5% of cement weight
  • For bonding to old concrete and reducing permeability: 4–6% of cement weight

Price Factors

The price of strengthening concrete adhesive is influenced by:

  • Type of resin used in production
  • Concentration of solid materials
  • Other ingredients used in the formulation

Method of Application – AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive

For bonding new concrete to old concrete:

  1. Preparation of old concrete surface:

Ensure the old concrete surface is free from any contaminants such as paint, oil, grease, and loose particles.

  2. Applying AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive:

Apply a thick, even layer of the adhesive over the old concrete surface, ensuring complete and uniform coverage.

  3. Adding to new concrete:

Add AC88 at a rate of 4–6% of the cement weight to the new concrete mix. This improves adhesion between the old and new concrete.

For internal waterproofing of concrete:

  1. Mixing with water:Mix the adhesive with one part water, or add directly to the fresh concrete. For each cubic meter of concrete, mix for at least one minute. For best results, dilute AC88 in a 3:1 ratio with water before adding to the mix.

For repair works:

  1. Applying adhesive to repair area:

Brush a layer of AC88 onto the prepared surface to be repaired.

  2. Adding to repair mortar:

Add AC88 at a rate of 3–5% of the cement weight to the repair mortar, then apply as usual.

These application methods ensure you get the best performance from AC88 Strengthening Concrete Adhesive in various uses, including bonding new to old concrete, internal waterproofing, and structural repairs.
